SharePoint Awards 2009 by Guest Blogger Andy Dale

As a SharePoint Consultant at Office Talk every day we seem to be contacted by a company promoting their latest SharePoint Add-on. Many of these don't quite add up, but others I like so much that I knock on our Marketing Manager's door and tell him that we must sign a reseller agreement with this company.

SharePoint Reviews has become a great site for reviewing these SharePoint applications, but I decided as the football season has finished that I would make my own SharePoint Awards for 2009.

SharePoint Online delivers the powerful features of SharePoint without the associated overhead of managing the infrastructure on your own. Flexible management options ensure that you still retain the control you need to meet the compliance requirements of your organization. You can purchase SharePoint in the cloud as a standalone offering or as part of an Office 365 suite where you could also get access to Exchange, Lync, the Office clients and web apps.

Ad-ons are an effective way of enhancing the user’s experience, as are SharePoint web parts. There is a range of web parts available for your benefit, such as the organisational chart that makes communication within the business easier, and one that allows you to include maps on your SharePoint site. I'm sure these will make it into the 2010 SharePoint Awards!
