At the Microsoft SharePoint 2011 Conference in Anaheim, California back in October, there were several hot topics presented throughout the week. Among these were several sessions on claims and using claims in SharePoint 2010 for interesting security-related scenarios like authentication. This topic is particularly important in the identity management space right now.
For those who are just starting to learn about claims, this article will look at the basics and give you a foundation for the concept of claims, and how they can be used in various business and data governance scenarios ...

Documentation Toolkit for SharePoint is the first SharePoint add-on on the market that automatically documents all your SharePoint farm settings into a single document.
The primary use of the Documentation Toolkit for SharePoint is streightforward – automatically documenting all of SharePoint farm configuration settings into a single, properly formatted and structured Microsoft Word document. Farm configuration settings can also be viewed through the software interface without exporting them to a document, providing all relevant setting information in one place instead of having it spread out over different solutions.

Since Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is an application platform, not just an application, maintaining and managing a SharePoint farm requires many skills. The level of complexity is comparable to SAP, although SharePoint does much more than SAP. The required skills are so broad it’s almost impossible to find them in one person. However, most of what’s required can be found in two roles: System Administrator and SharePoint Development Leader (in many environments, some parts of the System Administrator role can be handled by standard server operation procedures (anti-virus, firewall, etc.)...

(Rating: 5 out of 5) For server administrators, backup and restore processes are essential in production environments. This is obviously no different for SharePoint farms, but out-of-the-box (OOTB) features for backup and restore are certainly lacking in WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007. The Selective Restore Manager Pro from Metalogix is one such product that aims to fill the void left by Microsoft ...

The Taxonomy Extension by SharePointXXL enables documents and list items to be organized cross-site as part of a connected network model. It is, for the most part, a very well thought-out product which cleverly takes advantage of the intrinsic structure of SharePoint in order to provide a lot of functionality not considered by other tagging or taxonomy systems ...

(Rating: 5 out of 5) Review Summary: The Syntergy Replicator for SharePoint provides inter-farm replication services for MOSS 2007 and WWW v3.0. In this article we'll review existing tools for SharePoint management. The idea to create this overview appeared after I read that Bamboo solution shipped their own SharePoint Analyzer. My first thought was:“Why do we need another tool, if we already have SharePointSpy and SharePoint Manager?!” So, let’s compare the three free tools and see how the functionality differs ...

Tzunami Deployer maps SharePoint users from one domain to another, complete with file history and ownership. A business unit of a larger company has hired MicroLink for a SharePoint Migration Project. We've done a lot of upgrades from the 2003 technologies to the 2007 products, but this one has a twist ...

Server-to-server replication copies and distributes data and objects from one database to another and then synchronizes the content between each of the instances to maintain consistency. One of the most compelling reasons to implement a server-to-server replication solution is its ability to give instant access to SharePoint ...

Understanding differences between Client-to-Server (a.k.a. Offline Access) and Server-to-Server SharePoint Replication
Practical demands require instant access to information managed in SharePoint whether users are at a remote site in Africa, a local office in the next city, visiting a client site in Asia, or on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The complexity of today’s working environment has led the way for SharePoint replication technologies ...
