The SharePoint Knowledge Base Solution Accelerator allows you to create the infrastructure for an easy to use, secure and efficient Knowledge Base within minutes, saving you valuable time and costly development resources.
The Knowledge Base is made up of two sites: an Administrative site (KB Admin) and a Client site (KB Client). The KB Admin site allows KB Administrators to create and manage articles, create and manage categories for organizing the Knowledge Base articles and answer end user questions. The KB Client Site allows end users to search articles, locate articles through tree navigation, view a list of the most popular articles and a list of recently added articles, and submit questions to KB Administrators. End users can print and e-mail articles as well.
The KB Admin site offers the following administrative features:
- Create and manage all knowledge base articles from one location.
- Upload images into article content directly without having to create a Picture Library to upload images before you can use them in your articles.
- Content approval of new articles so only reviewed content is published to your end users.
- Manage and answer questions submitted by end users. Post answers internally for other Knowledge Base Administrators to see as well as e-mail the answer to the user who posted the question.
- Create categories for organizing your knowledge base content.
- Display list of recently added/updated articles as well as most popular articles.
- Configure search criteria to locate articles and view their status.
- Right-click the category tree to create, edit or delete categories. New!
- Review ratings and comments submitted by end users and determine whether to publish to client side knowledge base.
- Use relative paths for URLs to help facilitate moving your KB system from a test server to a production server or access from inside or outside your firewall.
- Show an All Articles box on the home page to view all articles in a selected category or all articles in the KB.
- View a thread of internal replies to a question submitted by a KB Client user.
The KB Client site offers the following end user features:
- Submit questions to knowledge base administrators.
- Print articles as well as e-mail articles several recipients as needed.
- Search all knowledge base articles using multiple search criteria, including age of article.
- Quickly view a list of articles just added to the knowledge base or the top 5 most popular articles.
