Recovery Manager for SharePoint provides granular recovery of anything in the backup of your SharePoint content database—individual documents, lists, document libraries, sites, workspaces.  It restores all information stored in the databases, including alerts, permissions, metadata and custom views.  To simplify the recovery process, it also provides a convenient way to search, locate and preview any item from across multiple database backups before restoring it.  Best of all, you can leverage the backups you already have; no proprietary platforms and no site- or item-level backups required.

Leverage Your Existing Backup Infrastructure
Recovery Manager for SharePoint works with backups you already have, so no additional backups are required. Recovery Manager supports the following backup formats:

  • SQL Server
  • Native SharePoint (2003 or 2007)
  • Quest LiteSpeed for SQL Server (backups saved to disk or Tivoli Storage Manager)
  • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases (TSM)

In addition, the “Search in Recycle Bin” option allows you to search for particular items across multiple backups and in live SharePoint Recycle Bins simultaneously. This functionality allows you to use Recovery Manager as your single entry point into any SharePoint recovery and restore the most recent version of any particular item whether it is found only in the backup or is available from the Recycle Bin.

Retrieve Data Anytime – And Restore Anywhere

Recovery Manager for SharePoint is an enterprise recovery solution that provides emergency access to all SharePoint content all the time. With Recovery Manager, any recovered content can be restored to any SharePoint instance or saved to a file system. Get your business-critical data back online before the entire server farm comes back.

Disaster Recovery Advisor

Recovery Manager for SharePoint also includes a Disaster Recovery Advisor, a component which guides the SharePoint administrator through the process of complete farm restoration. The DR Advisor analyzes the existing backups of the SharePoint configuration database, creates a detailed checklist of actions required to return the SharePoint farm back to operational state and verifies each components’ availability in real time. This allows you to quickly determine what has already been done and what needs to be done to get your SharePoint farm back up and running.

Developer's prospective

I am not a SharePoint administrator where I work but I needed some data from a forms library on the production farm copied to a stage farm for testing purposes. The SP administrator tried many times in many different ways to copy the items over but could never get the recovery manager tool to do so. We could get it to work for small amounts of items and lists with not many items but eventually, if we chose too much to copy at once, it would fail with ambiguous errors and sometimes corrupt the destination list/items.

From what the administrator told me, the tool is very useful for other actions, and the company is still using the product today. I was just disappointed that I couldn't use it to get the data I needed.

Cut Your Restore Time to Minutes, Not Hours or Day

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Amazing Product!

We have configured this to recovery directly from a TSM Archive. No Need for Standby Recovery Farms. Search before you retrieve information.

What previously took 3 engineers to do restore 1 document is now simplified to just 1 user.
We use to have 1 Backup Engineer to load backup in the archive, 1 DBA to restore sql litespeed back to sql server. 1 moss engineer to add content db to recovery web application.

Not to mention the time to recovery was taking so long and we hope we got the right document.

Solid tool

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Could use some minor improvements. The analysis of the databases can be very time consuming. Not being able to run analysis on more than one database at a time can be frustrating.

But otherwise this is a very solid tool. I would recommend it as it has saved us many hours of work.

Product Reviews

Pros Easy to use interface once learned. Allows restoration from Site Collection down to object-level. Pulls from standard SQL backups or Farm backups.
Cons Interface is not intuitive. Will not overwrite if restoring to non-original location. Slow to restore. Little information from errors during restorations.
